Beaches, cliffs, sandy dunes and brackish lagoons, evergreen scrub and pine forests, cultivated fields and pastures, wild hills and mountain areas, undulating and fertile countryside dotted with farmhouses, alternate with isolated plains, gentle hills and lush woods that know no interruptions. The Flora of the Tuscan Maremma is represented in a varied way throughout its vastness Territory, with some noteworthy peculiarities: the dense line of pine forests that runs along the coast (formed by the classic umbrella pines), the wild nature of the hilly part (with hornbeams, ferns, alders, elderberries and hazelnuts), alternating with the very fragrant Mediterranean bush (characterized by various shrubs such as holm oak, strawberry tree, myrtle, mastic and evergreen vegetation with many aromatic plants such as rosemary) to cultivated fields and the meadow-pasture environment, typical of the Tuscan and Lazio Maremma. Environments where nature is still the undisputed queen, in the Livorno Maremma, to the north, and in the Grosseto Maremma, in the centre, where for centuries the Maremma cattle and the Horses of the Maremma breedHorses of the Maremma breed butteri, the shepherds of the Maremma, the last herdsmen of the old continent, present today above all in the protected area of the Maremma Regional Natural Park.

The Mediterranean scrub, typical of the Maremma flora, occupies numerous extended areas throughout the territory, from the Colline Metallifere to Monte Amiata, also filling the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.

The Maremma flora is enhanced above all by illustrious excellences: olive groves and vineyards, from which prized extra virgin olive oils and famous wines are born, famous throughout the world. The particular characteristics of the climate of the Tuscan Maremma – never too cold and never too hot – and of its singular territory, which goes from the sea to the mountains and the hills, are the real secret of these renowned local products.
