Talamone
Located on a small promontory overlooking the Gulf of Argentario, Talamone is a small coastal village of great importance both from a tourist perspective and in terms of its history. It is a fraction of the municipality of Orbetello.
The village has Etruscan origins and was the site of a battle between Romans and Gauls. In the Middle Ages, it was an Aldobrandeschi fiefdom, as evidenced by the still-standing Rocca that dominates the town. The most significant historical event remains the one in 1860 when Garibaldi and his “Redshirts” made a stop there to resupply with food and weapons before continuing on to Sicily.
Talamone is not only a popular seaside destination but also famous for water sports enthusiasts, including windsurfing, kitesurfing, and sailing, due to its exposure to the sea and the constant presence of winds. Another characteristic feature of this village is its scenery. From the Rocca, you can admire parts of the Tuscan archipelago, the Argentario peninsula, and on clearer days, even Elba and Corsica.
Within Talamone, one of the entrances to the Natural Park of Maremma is located, a must-visit for nature and Maremman wildlife enthusiasts.
In the Talamone territory, there are several coves and numerous distinctive beaches. Notable among them is “Bagno delle Donne” (Women’s Beach), located under the Rocca, a very unique beach that can be reached on foot via a path and a staircase. Before entering the town, there is another beach that, as mentioned, is a destination for sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts (Baia di Talamone).

Rocca di Talamone
Constructed in the 13th century, the Talamone Castle stands tall on the hill overlooking the village. The castle, currently privately owned, offers breathtaking views of the sea and the town and is definitely worth a visit.
Torre di Talamone
Situated atop the hill of the castle, the Talamone Tower was built in the 15th century to protect the village from pirate raids. You can access the tower to enjoy panoramic views of the town and the sea.
Church of San Giovanni Battista
The Church of San Giovanni Battista is located in Piazza Garibaldi and is a very ancient place of worship. The church was built on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple and preserves many Baroque-style artworks.
Etruscan Temple of Talamonaccio
The Etruscan Temple of Talamonaccio is located a few kilometers from Talamone, in the inland of the Tuscan Maremma. It dates back to the 5th century BC and is one of the few Etruscan temples still visible in Italy. The temple is situated in an open and panoramic area, surrounded by a hilly landscape with views of Mount Argentario and the sea. The archaeological site includes the remains of the temple, walls, and some rectangular structures. The temple is an example of Etruscan architecture, with a semicircular plan and ten large Tuscan-style columns, meaning they have no bases and are hewn. Archaeological excavations have unearthed a large stone altar and many votive objects, such as terracotta figurines and ceramics. Legend has it that the Etruscans built the temple to worship the deity of the sea, Talamon, whom the locals considered the protector of sailors and fishermen. The temple was, therefore, a sacred and highly significant place for the religious life of the Etruscan population.
Beaches
