Roccalbegna

What to See in Roccalbegna

Roccalbegna is also a place of art. In addition to the remains of the Rocca and the Cassero Senese, it preserves some parts of other defensive structures: the walls from the 13th-14th century, one of the entrance gates to the village, the Maremma Gate, and two of the towers. But Roccalbegna’s true treasure is the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, which houses a triptych by Ambrogio Lorenzetti, one of the masterpieces by the Maestro del Buon Governo. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul overlooks the main square of the village, next to the Town Hall and the Civic Clock Tower. Inside, you can admire valuable frescoes and paintings, including the triptych by Ambrogio Lorenzetti representing the Madonna with Child between Saints Peter and Paul. A short walk from the church, you’ll find the Oratory of the Crucifix, which houses the Roccalbegna Museum. Here, you can admire works by Francesco Nasini and Sebastiano Folli, including a splendid crucifix by Luca di Tommè, created by the Sienese master around 1360.
