Main Events
Among the many events that take place in Follonica, the Follonica Carnival is worth mentioning, established in 1949 and capable of attracting many visitors every year with its mask parades and allegorical floats. The official logo of the Follonica Carnival represents the face of Gigi del Golfo, whose real name was Luigi Saragosa, a local resident who passed away in 1985 and was a promoter and organizer of the event. Every year, the Follonica Carnival Association chooses from among the citizens the person who will impersonate the emblem of the event: the Carnival King. The end of the Follonica Carnival is marked by the “burning of the King,” a large papier-mâché mask that is set on fire on the beach in front of Piazza XXV Aprile.
