HOW TO GET TO MAREMMA TUSCANY BY CAR, PLANE, TRAIN, BUS AND SHIP. GROSSETO, THE CAPITAL OF MAREMMA, IS THE POINT OF ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE OF THE MAIN CONNECTIONS.

Maremma is an easily accessible land as it is located in a privileged position compared to the major cities of central Italy. Grosseto is generally the point of reference for planning a trip to the Tuscan Maremma – the central one, better known as the Grossetan Maremma – and it is from here that the main connections that connect the city to all the destinations in the area depart and arrive. Car

Motorway connections to reach the Maremma are facilitated from every part of Italy. All the roads in the Maremma are in excellent condition.   • From Milan, take the A1 motorway to Parma Ovest, where you take the A15 Parma – La Spezia. From here the A12 leads to Rosignano Marittimo, and finally the E80 reaches Grosseto.
  • From Florence, take the Florence – Siena highway and then the state road (SS) 223 until you reach the capital Grosseto.
  • From Bologna take the A1 Autostrada del Sole to Firenze Certosa, then the Florence – Siena highway, and finally the state road (SS) 223 until you reach the city of Grosseto.
  • From Rome take the A12 Rome – Civitavecchia motorway, then take the E80 Aurelia until you reach Grosseto.

Airplane

The Maremma civil airport “Corrado Baccarini” is located in Grosseto and unfortunately does not host scheduled flights, but is limited to charter flights and general aviation services. The closest airports to Maremma, outside Grosseto, are Rome Fiumicino, Pisa and Florence. For those arriving by plane at the Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome Fiumicino, you can reach Termini station with a shuttle and with a small train the Ostiense station, from which regular connecting trains leave for Grosseto. For those arriving at Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport, you can take a train to Pisa Centrale station and find a connection to Grosseto. Same thing for those arriving at the Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence, they can reach the central station of Santa Maria Novella with a shuttle bus.

Train

The Maremma Territory is crossed by the Pisa – Rome railway line. Fifteen to twenty daily trains leave from Grosseto to and from the capital. In the Province there are eleven stations, starting from Follonica, on the border with the Maremma Livornese, up to the southernmost, Capalbio, close to the border with the Maremma Laziale. From north to south, the stations of the Maremma Grossetana are: Follonica, Scarlino, Gavorrano, Giuncarico, Montepescali, Grosseto, Alberese, Talamone, Albinia, Orbetello, Monte Argentario and Capalbio. For those arriving at the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence, and wishing to reach Grosseto, a change is almost always expected in Pisa or Livorno. Bus

Grosseto is connected to the main destinations of the Maremma by various bus companies. Rama guarantees urban service in some municipalities of the Province of Grosseto – Follonica, Manciano, Massa Marittima, Monte Argentario, Orbetello – and in the capital itself. It also carries out the extra-urban service between all the Maremma municipalities, also ensuring connections with the nearby Province of Siena, Florence and Rome Ostiense (Fiumicino). The Sena offers a convenient line that connects Grosseto with Milan and Bologna.

To arrive in Maremma by sea, the closest ports are in Livorno and Civitavecchia. Once landed, you can easily reach the city of Grosseto (or other cities in the Maremma) by road or rail. For those wishing to explore the beautiful coast and islands of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, the Grosseto Maremma has several well-equipped tourist ports: Scarlino (Marina di Scarlino), Punta Ala (Marina di Punta Ala), Castiglione della Pescaia (Porto-Canale), Marina di Grosseto (Marina di San Rocco), Talamone, Porto Santo Stefano (Porto del Valle), Porto Ercole and Marina di Cala Galera.
